theory. Oswald himself initiated conspiracy theories when he told the press
hours after the assassination, “I don’t know what this is all about. They’ve
taken me in just because I’ve been to the Soviet Union. I’m just a patsy!”

34% of the total respondents from the official HISTORY survey believe Fidel
Castro was behind the JFK assassination. This theory had such backing that the
US government thought it worthy to investigate. In 2013, it was revealed that
Cuban dictator Fidel Castro actually submitted to questioning by the Warren
Commission following the JFK assassination.

The official HISTORY survey results stated that 61% of the respondents believed
Oliver Stone’s 1992 film, JFK, is an accurate portrayal of the assassination.
Even before JFK had finished filming, the Washington Post national security
correspondent George Lardner showed up on set and wrote a scathing article
attacking the movie. After the film’s release, other major media outlets
followed suit, many taking offense with the loose interpretation of facts that
screenwriter Oliver Stone had taken.

33% of the respondents from the official HISTORY survey believe the Soviet Union
was behind the JFK assassination, which likely originates in the fact that
Oswald had spent time in the Soviet Union prior to the JFK assassination. “They
have found absolutely nothing to connect us with the Communist Party of the
United States,” Oswald stated, “In regards to your question about whether I
myself am a communist, as I said I do not belong to any other organization.”

American public knows the true facts about the assassination. The JFK
assassination left a lasting impact on those who lived through it; with “Where
were you when you heard the news?” being a popular topic of conversation. The
event also served as one of the first examples of breaking news for television
broadcasts. According to the Nielsen, within 40 minutes of the first reporting
of the assassination, the television audience doubled, by early evening, 70%
were at their television sets.
